Recently, there has been a significant increase in the number of methane gas distribution plants for motor vehicles in Italy. Thanks to the drop in the price of natural gas, the now well-known TTF – Title Transfer Facility (the benchmark used to determine natural gas prices on the European market), these sales outlets are growing in number, with new plants opening and others reopening after closing due to the disproportionate costs of raw materials. These positive signs show a clear recovery in the sector and offer confidence for the future.

The GRAF Group and ASPRO Italy support and promote the spread of methane filling stations by supplying the best latest-generation compressors and dispensers.

Behind this renewed and positive trend lies one simple fact: natural gas is currently the least polluting fuel available to motorists. The use of biomethane can also further reduce CO2 emissions by up to 120% compared to diesel, allowing for a negative environmental balance to be achieved. We are therefore talking about a choice that is environmentally friendly and, at the same time, takes consumers’ pockets into account. Currently, the average price of methane at the pump in Emilia Romagna is around €1.40/kg, while the average price of petrol is around €1.80/l. This means that consumers can already adopt environmentally friendly behaviour when travelling and at the same time save up to 35-40% compared to using petrol!

In addition to its use in motor vehicles, its versatility and growing availability make methane an attractive choice for various applications, such as a source of energy for industrial and domestic systems.

This explains what we have called the ‘revenge of methane gas’, which stems from an indisputable and virtuous coexistence between energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact and significant economic savings. The current and future potential of methane makes it a smart choice for those seeking a sustainable and truly accessible alternative to petrol, diesel and the still immature electric vehicle.

Now more than ever, it is time to embrace the ecological potential of natural gas and drive towards a cleaner, more sustainable and more affordable future. Finding out more could hold some interesting surprises!
